Good Morning, India…We made it!

After traveling for 24 hours, we finally made it to Delhi, India. We flew from Nashville to Chicago, Chicago to London (7 hours), where we had a four hour layover, then flew 7 1/2 hours to Delhi.
We were both able to sleep on both legs, so we we actually felt ok when we landed
 in Delhi at 1:40 am

Ready to go
Our plane to Delhi

While we were in line for customs, we turned around and there was one of the couples we are meeting here for the conference. They will be traveling with us on the Palace on Wheels as we tour Rajasthan. I never knew we would see someone we know in the Delhi airport!
We arrived at our hotel around 4:00. We fell into bed and slept until 2:00 pm the next day! Wow! Delhi is 11 1/2 hours ahead of Nashville time, so while everyone was still sleeping at home, it was already afternoon on Tuesday for us.
We have enjoyed spending the day in our lovely hotel, The Leela Palace which is in the Diplomatic area of Delhi among the Embassies. Here are a few shots of our hotel…
This was our view when we woke up this afternoon

I was afraid of the smells in India, but so far they have all been wonderful!
Here is a little insence burner outside.
 Fresh flowers everywhere
 Elephants everywhere
A man was polishing this silver beauty on the wall when we arrived at 4:00 am
 More fresh flowers
We had to get a picture by the huge elephants out front
 A gorgeous rooftop pool

 Lovely lobby
A night time view of the restaurant "The Cube" where we ate lunch.

We will have dinner tonight here at the hotel, then rise and shine early to be picked up at 5:00 am to head to the train station where we will take the train to Jaipur to begin our journey of
the Golden Triangle.

  1. Oh my goodness!! This hotel!!!! Heather! Looks absolutely amazing. I laughed when you mentioned the smells. This would've definitely been something I thought about! I am just trying to think about the whole wardrobing component to this trip! I saw your previous post about being respectful with dress. I never would've known. Again, the hotel. I did myself the favor of clicking on each pic to enlarge them. Those pools!!
